An award-winning news anchor and former beauty pageant model in her native Venezuela, Carmen María Montiel currently resides in Houston, Texas. Actively involved in numerous community events, she recently attended Houston Fashion Week and currently serves as chair for the Latino Learning Center fashion show. In the past, Carmen María Montiel served on the board of directors for the Institute of Hispanic Culture and for the Virtuosi of Houston, an organization that raises money to support education for young musicians. Ms. Montiel’s career in television began in the 1980s, when she hosted Venevision programs “Buenos Dias Venezuela” and celebrity news show “Close Up.” In addition to covering the 1992 GOP Convention in Houston for Telemundo, she hosted the 1986 Miss Universe special in Panama for Channel 4 Panama. Carmen María Montiel graduated magna cum laude from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor of arts in Spanish and broadcasting. Following her undergraduate studies, she worked for WSJK Channel 2 as the producer of a student program.
