Biotechnology Consultant Gerardo Zapata, PhD
Dr. Gerardo Zapata currently works as a biotechnology consultant and scientist specializing in the commercialization of bio-therapeutic products, including those manufactured using bacterial and mammalian cell culture. Over the course of his career he has worked in virtually all aspects of production, beginning with product discovery and continuing through optimization, process development, process transfer, and product validation. Gerardo Zapata has additionally established a reputation as a team leader capable of effectively directing technology development projects. Some of his achievements include engaging in biologics license application (BLA) processes, as well as commercialization and manufacturing activities, for anti-Her2, or Herceptin; anti-C2B8, more commonly known as Rituximab; and the anti-EGF receptor Vectibix. Dr. Zapata received his doctor of philosophy in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He additionally holds a master of science from the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico.
