Psychologist Helen Fogarty Awarded for Her Work at
An experienced clinical psychologist, Helen Fogarty served for more than 15 years as a senior psychologist at Graham-Windham Residential Treatment Center in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. Working with adolescents referred by the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, she provided psychotherapeutic treatment for conditions such as attention-deficit disorder, adjustment disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and mood disorder. She also worked with the families of the children, running family therapy sessions with both biological and foster families. She facilitated group workshops on social skill development, moral consciousness, and anger management. She provided clinical oversight of several staff members each week and ran weekly treatment team meetings to coordinate the work of the various departments: social work, medical, cottage and clinical. In recognition of her service, Helen Fogarty received "The Best in All of Us" honor. Dr. Fogarty's earlier experience included working as a clinical manager for Northern Westchester Guidance Clinic, where she conducted psychotherapy sessions for individuals of all ages and developed a therapy group for children victimized by sexual abuse. In addition, she had a private psychotherapy practice in New York City for a over a decade. Helen Fogarty earned a PhD in clinical psychology at the City University of New York. She completed postdoctoral training in psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy through the Interpersonal Institute and maintains membership in the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. Aside from her professional pursuits, Dr. Fogarty volunteers with the First Unitarian Society of Southern Westchester. She helps coordinate and run the Women’s Group and participates in philanthropic initiatives of the Social Action Committee, such as the Help Kenya project, which organizes collecting and repairing computers for Kenyan students.
